Foxwoods, Mohegan Sun report higher July revenue

Hartford, Connecticut (AP) August 2010

The two tribally-run casinos in Connecticut reported slightly higher revenue in July compared with the same month a year ago.

Foxwoods Resort Casino said during August its slot revenue was $64.1 million, up about 1 percent from July 2009. The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, which owns the casino, paid $17.2 million to the state in July, the share required in its agreement with the state.

William Sherlock, president of Pequot Gaming Enterprises, said Foxwoods is pleased with the results, but that economic conditions “will continue to pose challenges to our business over the coming months.”

The Mohegan Sun reported revenue of $70.3 million for July, up from $69.1 million in July 2009.

Its contribution to the state was about $17.6 million.
