Senator Johnson announces hearing on Indian housing in South Dakota

Pierre, South Dakota (AP) August 2010

Sen. Tim Johnson says two U.S. Senate committees will hold a joint field hearing in South Dakota later this month to discuss the housing crisis on American Indian reservations.

The Democratic senator says the Banking Committee and the Indian Affairs Committee will hold the hearing Aug. 25 at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City.

Johnson says members of the two committees need to hear about housing problems on reservations. The senator says he has repeatedly pushed to make sure tribal communities get federal support so they can continue to grow and can reduce the massive backlog of housing needs on reservations.
