Tex Hall to run again for tribal chairman

New Town, North Dakota (AP) August 2010

Former Three Affiliated Tribes Chairman Tex Hall says he will seek the position again, possibly setting up a repeat of the 2006 election showdown on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation.

Hall served two terms as chairman before losing to current Chairman Marcus Levings in 2006. Levings said during late July he would not seek a second term but later changed his mind.

Levings beat Hall by more than 200 votes in 2006, but the contest dragged on for months while Hall unsuccessfully appealed his loss to the National Indian Gaming Commission and tribal courts.

Hall says he’s running this year because many people including tribal elders have asked him to. He is a former president of the National Congress of American Indians.

The tribe with 12,000 enrolled members will hold its primary election in September and general election in November. Candidates have until Aug. 10 to file.
