Gun Lake Tribe announces $165M loan for casino

Wayland, Michigan (AP) July 2010

The Gun Lake Tribe of Pottawatomi Indians has received a $165 million loan to finish a casino in southwestern Michigan.

The tribe said in a release July 20 that financing on the project in Wayland, about 20 miles south of Grand Rapids, has been completed.

Tribal Chairman D.K. Sprague says securing the loan will help the tribe become economically self-sufficient.

The first phase of the project is expected to create 600 direct jobs and 1,000 indirect jobs. It will feature 1,400 slot machines.

An onsite wastewater treatment plant is under construction and roadwork for freeway access is nearly complete.

The casino’s grand opening is expected in early 2011.
