Native American Telecom extends offer to Sprint

Sioux Falls, South Dakota (AP) September 2010

A central South Dakota telephone company wants to settle its legal dispute with a national wireless carrier.

Sprint Nextel Corp. earlier sued Native American Telecom LLC, saying the tribal business serving the Crow Creek Reservation was operating a scheme to obtain more money from the communications giant.

Native American Telecom disputes the claim. Scott Swier, a lawyer representing the business, says it’s offering to charge 1 cent per minute for calls instead of a 5-cent rate common for a rural area.

John Taylor, a Sprint spokesman in Reston, Va., told The Argus Leader that the company doesn’t comment on litigation.
