Pine Ridge web site offers journey into the past and present

John Yellow Bird Steele, president of the Oglala Sioux Tribe (OST), has announced the launch of the official OST web site, Designed to deliver the power and depth of the Internet by giving a journey to the past and present of the life of the Oglala Sioux.

The information and content brings the visitor on a journey to how the OST organization functions, offers a Who’s Who in the Pine Ridge Reservation, Calendar of events, Descriptions of the 6 OST council committee programs, Biographies/Photos of Past and Present Oglala Sioux Chiefs, Native Streaming music, Native America Newspapers online, Native History, Tribal Resources, Social Assistance and Fund Raising, Native American Art, Native American authentic recipes, links to other Indian Reservations and Statistics, and links to Government Resources.

The web site consists of 22 Chapters in all and contains a vast level of detail. The web site was developed to inform and benefit the visitor about the operation of the Pine Ridge Reservation, as a Public Service, and to Index Educational Materials for students and researchers and to promote Native American Culture and History awareness.

The Oglala Sioux Tribe is governed by 19 council members elected by the people of the districts on the reservation. Pine Ridge is the second largest Indian reservation in the country. Located in southwest South Dakota, the population is over 20,000 covering an area of 2,000,000 acres.
