Native American museum expanding in Arkansas

The privately-run Museum of Native American Artifacts in Bentonville is preparing to expand.

The museum occupies 5,000 square feet at a site west of downtown and is to add 1,500 square feet at a cost of about $150,000. The project includes making the entrance more dramatic and the addition of a gift shop. The new location opened last year.

Owner David Bogle says the museum needs more room for its growing collection, and for items on loan from other museums.

The museum includes displays of artifacts from Arkansas and far beyond. There are exhibits of items such as pottery, arrowheads, Mayan gold and other objects. Some items are from the University of Arkansas Museum, which closed in 2003.
