MINNESOTA, Redby Funeral services for ENNIS JOHNSON, 90, were held September 7, 2009, at the Redby Community Center. Interment was held at St. Marys Mission Catholic Cemetery in Redby. Ennis was born July 26, 1919, in Red Lake, Minnesota. She passed away September 3, 2009, at North Country Regional Hospital, in Bemidji.
Ennis was educated at St. Marys Mission School. She tutored at the Mission School until she married John Johnson in 1938. She worked at the Redbys Elderly Nutrition Site for many years. She served on the Red Lake Tribal Enrollment Committee for over 20 years. In the 1990s she was a cultural consultant speaking at many in-services for educators, schools, children programs and health care providers. She also worked as a counselor and advocate for the Red Lake Group Home, touching many hearts where she became a Grandma and Auntie. (Red Lake Nation News, September 11, 2009)
