Michael J. Peltier (Meshan), 43, of Oneida passed away unexpectedly as a result of a vehicle accident Tuesday morning August 25, 2009. The son of John and Lynn (Cornelius) Peltier was born October 21, 1965 at Plymouth, WI. On June 7, 2005 he married the former Virginia Swamp in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Mr. Peltier was a U.S. Army Veteran, and was an active member of Oneida Veterans, Lac du Flambeau Veterans, and Forest County Color Guards. He worked for many years at the Oneida Casino as a boxman in the craps pit. He was a well-renowned master of ceremonies throughout Indian Country.

He was an active member and Corner Chair of the Traditional Zoar Drum, which was a large part of his traditional Native American Heritage. Michael was also a member of the Native American Church.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia, five children, Tyler Pamanet, Levander Pamanet, Trevor Pamanet, Shewenda Peltier, and Talon Peltier, his mother, Lynn, father John; two siblings Paul (Jackie) Peltier, and Rosemarie (Jeff) Rackow, nephews Cullin, Hunter, and Daiel Peltier, and Matthew Rackow; niece Holly. Michael is further survived by aunts, uncles, cousins, Virginia’s family, and his adopted families throughout the Indian Country.

Family and friends may call from 8:00 AM until 4:00 PM Thursday Aug. 27 (TODAY) at the Michael and Virginia Peltier family home, 894 Riverdale Drive Oneida. Oneida VFW will hold a veteran ceremony at 3:30 PM at the home, following the Veteran ceremony we will process to Zoar, WI where services will continue until 2:00 PM Friday, Aug. 28, 2009.

Procession will leave at 2:00 PM from Zoar, WI on Friday for Traditional Burial Services at 3:00 PM at the Oneida Tribal Cemetery in Oneida, WI. RYAN FUNERAL HOME of De Pere is assisting the Peltier Family with arrangements please visit to send online condolences.
