Shuman, Jeanette “Jan”: Walks on

Jeanette M. Shuman, age 71 of Hayward, passed away May 30, 2009 at Hayward Area Memorial Hospital.

Jan was born August 23, 1937 in Hayward, WI, the daughter of Charles & Christine (LaRock) Patrick. She attended Kinnamin Grade School, then graduated from Hayward High School in 1956. On November 29, 1958 Jan was united in marriage to Tom Shuman at St. Francis Solanus Indian Mission in Reserve. They resided in Hayward where she lovingly raised nine children. She was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hayward. Jan’s strong faith and generosity will never be forgotten. She always put family first and made their house a blessed home.

Jan is survived by her loving husband Tom of 50 years; children Patty (Ray) McConnell of Gillette, WY, Tommy Lou Shuman of Newport Beach, CA, Tweed (Melanie) Shuman of Hayward, Mary (George) Fall of Ashland, Todd (Beth) Shuman of Edina, MN, Teresa (Erich) Fahrner of Fort Myers, FL, Elizabeth  (Sean) Stone of Hayward, Carol (Don) Hamblin of Hayward; son-in-law Ed Stensland of Gordon; 30 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild; brother Richard Patrick of Hayward.

She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Terry Lynn Stensland, brother Neil Patrick, sisters Shirley Nelson and Betty Gokey.

Mass of Christian Burial was held June 3 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hayward. Father Philip Juza officiated with music provided by Roberto Palombi and Deanna Lancaster. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery in Hayward

Honorary casket bearers were Pat Martinson, Richard Patrick, Louis Talik, Ginny Scott and Rita Sirota.

Casket bearers were Diane Allen, Mary Gayle Love, Chris McConnell, Todd Shuman, Tommy Shuman and Tweed Shuman.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Joseph Catholic Church for Greenwood Cemetery improvement project.
