Smith, Edward: “Bebwenii” Bird coming in for a landing

Edward W. Smith, age 74 of LCO, passed peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Friday, July 4, 2008.

Edward William was born August 24, 1933, in the village of Round Lake, WI, the son of Henry & Agnes (Barber) Smith. He graduated from Hayward High School in 1952. Ed enlisted in the US Army and served from January 1955 – December 1956. After the military he lived in San Francisco & Los Angeles, CA for some years where he attended trade school. Ed then lived in Chicago for some years and returned to LCO in 1978 where he worked for LCO Development until his retirement. He then attended several years at LCO College and earned several associate degrees and certificates in various fields. Ed enjoyed his family, hunting, fishing, bingo and being in the outdoors.

He is survived by his son Andy Bennett; daughters Leona Jerome, Jackie (Barry LaRonge) Bennett, Danielle (Edwin) Carley; step-sons Merlyn Bennett all of LCO, J.T. (Mary) Bennett of Lone Rock, WI; 13 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; brothers Henry (Mimi) Smith of Topanga, CA, Donald (Carol) Smith of Hayward, William Smith of New Post, Lawrence Smith of Hayward, John Smith, Thomas Smith both of New Post; sisters Selma (Larry) Buckwheat of Green Bay, Doris Garvey of Neena, WI.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, sister Myrtle Smith, brother Robert Smith, step-son Louis Bennett.

Tribal Funeral Rites were held on Monday, July 7, 2008, at Pineview Funeral Service in Hayward. Lee Staples officated. Burial was in New Post Cemetery. Visitation was held beginning at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 6, at the funeral home.

Honorary casket bearers were J.T. Bennett, Brandon Carley, Edwin Carley, Donald Quaderer, Bill Smith, Donald Smith, John Smith, Anthony Trepania, Donald Trepania Jr. & Trent Trepania.

Casket Bearers were Andy Bennett, Merlyn Bennett, Joseph Grover, Barry LaRonge, Robert Miller & Tom Smith.

Pineview Funeral Service in Hayward assisted Ed’s family with arrangements.
