John M. Nickence, age 60 of New Post, passed away February 14, 2008, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth.

John Mitchell was born February 10, 1948, in Hayward, WI, the son of George O’Shogay and Cecelia Nickence. He attended school in Couderay and Winter. John lived several different places including Cleveland, OH, Clinton, IA, Chicago, IL, and LCO. He worked as a landscaper and handyman and many other jobs.

He is survived by brothers Adrian Nickence of Hayward, Bryon Nickence of Fox Lake, WI, Stephen Nickence of Spooner; sisters Gretchen Nickence of Duluth, MN, Waverin Nickence-Ramsey of Bloomer, WI; Uncle Charles Nickence, Aunt Evelyn Nickence both of New Post; many nephews, nieces and cousins.

John was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, 2 sisters, aunts and uncles.

Mass of Christian Burial was held on February 18 at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in New Post. Father Gregory Hopefl officiated with music provided by Sister Felissa Zander. Burial will be held in New Post Cemetery in the spring. Visitation was on February 17, at the New Post Senior Center.

Honorary casket bearers were Robert “Bob” Allen, William Baker Jr., Robert “Bud” Barber, Dave DeCora, Oliver “Buckshot” DeMarr, Barry Hollen, Wilbur Miller, Joseph O’Shogay and Kevin Ramsey.

Casket Bearers were Dave Christensen, Robert Jack, Al Miller, Robert Miller, William “Bill” Swehla and Mark Tainter.

Pineview Funeral Service in Hayward assisted John’s family with arrangements.
