Dave Bissonette teaches Ojibwe langauge at the Lac Courte Oreilles Community College in northern Wisconsin.

Bissonette explains how the language defines Ojibwe people and by studying the language, helps people understand their inter-connectedness and relationship with other beings, animals, plants, and other elements of the earth we are all dependant upon.

By offering the language at the community college, Bissonette says it helps local Ojibwe people understand their identity and the community cultural norms that guided the elders.

"The language teaches us who we are"
