By The Associated Press

A look at the Ojibwe people, and their history and culture:

– According to the Ojibwe creation story, Ojibwe history began in North America just east of the Great Lakes. Over the centuries, they migrated to territories all around the Great Lakes.

– They now live in more than 200 sovereign nations in the U.S. and Canada.

– The Ojibwe, Odawa and Bodewadami constitute the Three Fires Confederacy, which dates back about 800 years. The confederacy continues to meet regularly.
