LCO: Fishing by Spear - Filleting in Tom's Kitchen: 2 Part Video

By Paul DeMain
Reserve, Wisconsin (NFIC) 5-08

News From Indian Country takes a tour of Tom Beaudin's kitchen on the morning of May 5th to watch him fillet some fresh walleye that were brought out of the lakes of the Lac Courte Oreilles reservation in northern Wisconsin. While winter hung around the Great Lakes for a couple of additional weeks, Chippewa fishers were out in the coves and bays of the LCO Reservation starting in mid-April with many off-reservation lakes opening up during early May this year.

Join us in this two part interview with Tom Beaudin, one of several Ojibwe families who use their rights reserved in treaties for sustenance and ceremonies in the Great Lakes region.

Part I - College Educated Question: What do you do with your fish? Answer: Eat them!
